Derma Scan

Derma scan is a test that uses ultraviolet light to show skin damage that is invisible to the naked eye.  This damage is usually cause by excessive sun exposure and dehydration.  Derma scan machines are a little larger than a computer monitor.  An employees places his/her head under a black cloak on one side of the machine to look at their face in a mirror illuminated by ultraviolet light.  The technician can look at the individual’s appearance from a slit on the other end of the machine and in real time indicate where the individual has any sun damage and the condition of the individual’s skin. 

Some devices can now scan an image of an employees face into a computer so that the employee does not need to spend more than a few seconds being scanned.  This screening is significant in educating an individual about preventing sun damage that can lead to skin cancer and premature aging of the skin.
