Glucose (Diabetes)
Glucose (Diabetes) The glucose test measures just that- the amount of glucose, or sugar, in the blood. It is used to detect hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and to help diagnose diabetes. As with the cholesterol test, the glucose test is very quick, easy, and painless and can actually be done in conjunction with the cholesterol tests. However, for the glucose test, it is recommended (but not always required) that an individual fast for 8-10 hours prior to the test. The nurse will stick the tip of finger to draw a small blood sample. The nurse then inserts this sample into a machine that will provide the results in less then 10 minutes. After the results are produced, the nurse will go over the results with the individual being screened. Below is an explanation of the results:
