Vision Screenings

Vision screenings assess an individual’s visual acuity (VA), or the acuteness or clearness of vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and/or tests for color blindness.  An employee's vision can be determined by the sharpness of the retinal focus within the eye, the sensitivity of the nervous elements, and the interpretative faculty of the brain. 

To do this, an optometrist or technician uses a vision scope similar to the device seen at most state DMV's.  An employee will place their forehead against the scope and view the images within.  The technician will ask a series of questions and then evaluate an employees' vision based on his/her answers.  The test is painless, non intrusive and takes about 2 minutes.

Another popular way to test vision is through the use of a wall chart.  An employee stands 20 feet from a vision chart and reads a series of letters from various lines.  The results determine how well an employee can see from 20 feet away compared to a person with normal vision. 

An employee with 20/20 vision can see what a person with normal vision can see.  However, an employee with 20/80 vision can only see objects from 20 feet away that a person with normal vision can see from 80 feet away.  This test is simple and non intrusive but limited on the aspects of vision in which  it can test.
